The Three Fibre Problems We Get Called Out for Most

If any of this sounds familiar, it's almost always the fibre line or the ONT — not your Wi‑Fi router — and it needs a technician with a fibre splicer on site, not a router reset.
Most common call-out

🔌 Connected but No Internet

Your router shows a Wi‑Fi connection, devices say “connected,” but nothing loads. This usually points to a fault between the ONT and your ISP — a weak or broken fibre signal, a faulty ONT, or an FNO-side issue we need to isolate.

Fibre line fault

🔴 Red LOS Light on the ONT

LOS stands for “Loss of Signal.” A solid or blinking red LOS light almost always means the fibre strand itself is damaged, dirty, badly bent, or disconnected somewhere between the street and your wall box.

Garden, gate, roof damage

✂️ Visibly Broken or Damaged Fibre Cable

Garden services, gate motors, dogs, construction, or storm damage are the usual culprits. A snapped fibre cable can’t be “joined” like copper — it needs to be professionally fusion-spliced.

Common Questions From Homeowners

My router shows I'm connected to Wi‑Fi, but there's no internet. Is that a fibre problem?

It can be. “Connected” only means your devices can reach the router — it doesn’t confirm the router has a working internet feed. Check your ONT’s LOS light first: if it’s red or off, the fault is on the fibre line and needs a technician, not a router reset.

What does a red light on my ONT actually mean?

A red or blinking LOS (Loss of Signal) light means the fibre line isn’t delivering a usable signal to your ONT. It’s almost always a physical fault — a break, a dirty connector, or a sharp bend in the cable somewhere between the street and your wall box. You can also confirm with your ISP to check if you do not have an area outage that is affecting your whole neighbourhood.

Can I fix a broken fibre cable myself?

No. Fibre-optic cable can’t be twisted, taped, or crimped back together like copper wire. A proper repair requires a fusion splicer, which precisely aligns and fuses the glass strands — specialised equipment our technicians carry on every call-out.

How long does a typical home fibre repair take?

Most single splice repairs are completed within 60–90 minutes on site, once the technician has traced the fault. More complex breaks — a fully severed underground section, for example — may take longer or need a follow-up visit.

Do you work with my ISP even if you didn't do my original installation?

Yes. We’re not tied to any single ISP or installer. We work directly with the underlying FNO infrastructure — Vumatel, Openserve, MetroFibre, Frogfoot, Octotel and others — regardless of who installed your original line.

Can you move my ONT to a different room?

Yes, this is a full ONT relocation. We extend or re-splice your existing fibre line to the new location so you keep the same FNO connection and don’t need to arrange a brand-new installation with your ISP.

What areas do you cover?

We currently serve the greater Johannesburg area, including Sandton, Midrand, Centurion, and surrounding suburbs.
