Insurance Incident Report for Lightning Damaged Network Equipment
Lightning is a massive electrostatic discharge that occurs during thunderstorms. When lightning strikes the ground, the current seeks the path of least resistance and can travel through the ground and into infrastructure.
During thunderstorms, some network equipment can be damaged by lightning when it strikes. We work with you to conduct an inspection of your lightning damaged network equipment and issue an incident report. The incident report is useful for when you need to claim from your insurance.
Network cables are low-voltage cables that transmit data and power. Lightning can travel through the CAT6 cable and damage the equipment it is connected to. The most common devices that get struck by lightning are the power supply and the other items:
- Router
- Wifi access points
- Network switches
- CCTV Cameras
- CCTV Video Recorder (NVR/DVR)
- Television and screens
- UPS
- Cables
If you have been unfortunate and your network equipment was damaged by lightning you can always count on the Local IT Guy to come inspect the equipment and replace faulty and damaged. We also issue an incident report upon completion of the inspection.
