Time to Upgrade Obsolete Unifi Access Points
It is a great time to upgrade obsolete Unifi access points that have been installed more than 5 years ago. The UAP-LR has stopped receiving critical updates and is marked obsolete on the controller.
As per the Ubiquiti website, the following Unifi Access Point models will no longer receive new system updates, bug fixes, or security updates after 1 March 2021.
- UAP-Outdoor
- UAP-Outdoor+
- UAP-Pro
- UAP-IW
- UAP (v1+v2)
- UAP-LR (v1+v2)
- UAP-AC-EDU
- UAP-AC-IW-PRO

What this means is that although they are no longer being updated, they will continue to work with network controllers that have not been upgraded to the latest release version. If you have set up and forgotten the APs in the past 5 years or so, you are absolutely affected by this. As time goes you’ll no longer be able to configure your obsolete APs.
This is then the time to have a look at what APs you have and if they are not affected by the obsolete. Obsolete APs can be a security risk to your network giving intruders access to your entire network especially if your network setup is not well maintained.
